In homage to the eagerly anticipated annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, Dear Dave, Magazine devotes its ninth issue to photographs that depict swimsuits in many different formats, aesthetics and functions. (more)
The photographs are culled from a broad range of time periods, from the historical and classic, the obscure and vernacular, and from fashion, fine art, and snapshot. As Stephen Frailey states in the Editor’s letter: ‘Rather than resorting to the predictable, pneumatic cheesecake, the work represents aspects of daily life and bridges the complexities and contradictions of public and private”.
Contributors include Richard Misrach, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eric Fischl, Sølve Sundsbø, Martin Parr, Catherine Opie, Penelope Umbrico, Paul Outerbridge, and Steven Meisel as well as many young and emerging photographers. A lively conversation and juxtaposition among many disparate images is united by a common subject.
Dear Dave, is published three times a year and devoted to representing contemporary photography of many diverse genres and sensibilities, from both familiar and unknown photographers, with a particular emphasis on younger and experimental photographers. The portfolios are often accompanied by critical essays that address the work, and occasionally poetry and fiction.
