A couple of days ago, Carmen Winant emailed me about a collective show in memory of Larry Sultan. I suggested making the call public, and the California College of the Arts agreed to it. Find the call for submissions below. This is a great opportunity to honour a photographer who will be sorely missed.
The Photography Program here at the California College of the Arts is hosting a pin-up show in honor of our colleague, mentor, and dear friend Larry Sultan, and you are invited to participate. Larry passed away at his home on December 13th after a brief struggle with cancer. Larry’s influence and importance as a teacher and artist is monumental, he is deeply missed. Please see this link for more information on his career and passing.
This show is a way for us to mark his passing and his enormous contributions and come together as a community. It is somewhat informal and open to all participants, so please feel free to forward this information. You can contribute an image, an object, a letter, text, really anything you believe honors Larry as a person, artist, and teacher. The show will be an evolving installation in the Oliver Art Center on the Oakland campus from January 11-17th, 2010. We will of course be documenting the show as it comes together.
Here are the three ways you can contribute:
1. Mail something that will arrive by Wednesday January 14th at the latest, sooner is better.
If you want your contribution returned to you please provide a SASE. Please include your name and an email address and/or phone number with your submission.

Please send jpegs sized at 72dpi and no larger than 1500 dpi.
3. If you live in the Bay Area, drop off something to the first floor of the photo building (Martinez) on the Oakland campus anytime between 10am-5pm from January 7th through January 14th (with the exception of Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th). Please include your name and an email address and/or phone number with your submission. Please return to pick up your submission at the Oliver Art Center on Monday January 18th between 10am-1pm.
