Dalia Khamissy

Contemporary Photographers

Jeff Wall’s The Destroyed Room is a well known (staged) photograph, described here as follows: “Wall echoes Delacroix’s composition, with its central sweeping diagonal and sumptuous palette of blood reds, while acknowledging its staged atmosphere by re-composing the scene as a roughly fabricated stage-set, absent of any players.” The people who lived in the rooms depicted by Dalia Khamissy were probably less interested in whether their bombed-out living quarters evoked any of Delacroix’s compositions.
